Not Today

When Lindsey was 5 years old she learned the word no. She used the word no when we asked her try a new food. She used the word no when she didn’t want to do something at therapy. She used the word no for just about everything. We asked Lindsey to use her words instead of screaming. At first we celebrated that she was saying a word. Eventually we taught her to say “not today” in hopes that someday she would be able to do what we were asking of her. “Not today” gave us hope that someday she would. Today I’m now saying to Lindsey, “you can say no” It’s incredible what she is able and willing to do.
