My first blog post

So, I keep hearing people tell me that I need to start a blog.   However, all I keep thinking is of all the reasons why I shouldn’t start a blog.

1) I am  terrible at typing.  Just this much has taken me  forever.

2) Computers frustrate me.  I have already wanted to throw it out the window twice today.

3) I am much better at talking than writing down my thoughts.  My first job is a cosmetologist-so yeah..talking is my thing-not writing.

4) A busy life seems to get in the way…Ok that’s the worse excuse ever since everyone is busy.

Then, there are the reasons why I should blog:

JUST ONE BIG ONE-OUR MISSION.  MY passion is surviving, living, and thriving in this world where we honor and celebrate our unique differences.  I want to connect with others who have been affected by autism and mental health concerns.

Today, I have been working on updating our website, posting on Facebook, contacting upcoming speaking engagement coordinators, and practicing my speech.

I started speaking about autism when Lindsey was in kindergarten.  I was asked by her teacher to speak to the educators at her elementary school.  I thought I was going to throw up.  Wow! That was over 20 years ago.  I never dreamed Lindsey and Brittany would speak along side me.  That’s why I am practicing today- ha ha- they are good, and I need to keep up.

Lindsey and Brittany are both enjoying their jobs.  Brittany works in sales and Lindsey works at the YMCA.  Lindsey called me the other day to share that she got a raise and now she can afford the extra $15 it is going to cost her each month due to an increase in her apartment rent.  Changes like this can really throw her off…and I guess anyone.  I am so glad that Brittany and Lindsey are happily employed.

Lindsey has been drawing a lot lately which is always a good sign that she is in her happy place. She told me that she is kind of like Forrest Gump, but instead of running, she draws.  She always cracks me up with her analogies to movies.  Her favorite thing to draw right now seems to be famous people.  I think she is starting to think she is pretty famous since she has been drawing some self-portraits.  To me, my girls will always be number one.

I would love to hear from you and especially how the people in your life brighten your day.
